As Shaun White played in his own personal backcountry half-pipe just a few miles away, we discussed how to keep our industry alive and even more importantly, how we can keep our jobs. On Day 2 the group had a collective epiphany: fire everybody and focus all marketing budgets on ourselves! Welcome to "The Re-Session". Fuck you bitches!

Tragic Day at Snowbird

On Sunday, December 14, I went to Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort to shred some pow with friends. Below is my first person account of what went down on our first run of the day, first run of the season for my friend Shawn...

Utah claims the "Greatest Snow on Earth" but this year it's been taking its time getting here. So, like many Utah riders, when I looked at the weather maps and saw the pattern changing I knew this weekend was going to be epic. With a quick call to the Snowbird report it looked like High Baldy was going to open for the first time this season. So, after a long drive from Heber, stopping to pick up my friend Shawn Boyle and waiting in a long tram line we were ready to get some. Up the short hike and out the traverse to an open zone that we had ridden maybe hundreds of times before; below us lay a narrow chute with flat tree zones on either side. We were only there for a matter of minutes to regroup when suddenly a fracture some 2 feet deep and 40-50 feet wide ripped out merely feet away from us. As the seemingly small and slow moving debris rolled down, it quickly gained momentum and mass, funneling itself through narrow spots and gaining strength as it fell. We had noticed a couple skiing below us, the girl had either fallen and was collecting her gear or had gotten cliffed out and was hiking back up. The debris struck her and swept her away without a trace.

Luckily, the highly experienced group we were with called on avalanche training and reacted quickly. We started yelling for the victim and while the main part of our group made their way to the debris pile, I placed a call to the Snowbird ski patrol and joined the search. We were notified by the victim's ski partner that she was not wearing a transceiver so we began probing the debris with anything we had: skis, boards and ski poles at first and then avalanche probes as the patrol came on scene. After an hour of searching three distinct debris zones spread over three different elevations, a friend of mine felt a soft spot with his probe and quickly dug the victim out. Unfortunately, after being down that long, and taking a hell of a violent ride down the entire face of High Baldy, she had stopped breathing. The latest word that I've received was that the emergency crews had been able to resuscitate her but that sadly she had succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

The thing that struck me the deepest today was that accidents can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime. We were riding in-bounds, in an area where control work had been done and people had already ridden. A spot that we all had ridden many times before. There very easily could have been a half dozen of my bros caught up in this slide as well. The only way to combat the unexpected is to be prepared. Take an avalanche class, know the conditions you are riding, even if it's in-bounds and deemed safe, and know how to respond if an emergency does occur. And get your riding buddies to learn along with you, it truly can save your life or that of your friends.

We rolled out to Steamboat Springs, CO for a little turkey day with the Loeppert's. this has become and annual trip. I dont even know how many T-Days I have been out here. Anyway, the snow at first was not that great, but things have started to change. It looks like we are about to get hit with a bunch of Snow.. So here it is, almost Thanksgiving and I'm running around in a tee shirt. Weak. After our initial burst of winter weather a few weeks ago there has been nothing falling from the sky. Although Snowbird and Brighton have opened the gates for the 08/09 season, they are the few and only. Park City is scheduled to open in 4 days time, but honestly, it's looking pretty grim out there. Well, when life gives you lemons and all that shit... so let's go to the skatepark!

Saturday night I was out on a walk with Kujo and it had just started to spit a little rain. The reports were calling for 1-3 inches on the mountain. Fun, yes. Powder, not so much. This all changed as I awoke to close to a foot in town and a shit ton more up on the hill. We rallyed up early and put our time in. It was pretty dang epic, hence the lack of shots. can't be wasting time snapping photos on the first pow day of the year. We spent time lapping with The Tall one, Hunter, Jay Sheldon from dragon, Muzzey, EJack, Billy, and Gabe Taylor to name a few... It was fucking epic for third day of shredding. Cant wait to head back up Wed.

Oh yeah, suck it Utah homies... I rode a chair lift to pow...hahahaha

Mammoth Opening Weekend

Mammoth opened up last Monday and we rallyed up Friday morning. In my truck was Hunter, Tall Todd, and my faithful companion Kujo the dog... Our first two days consisted of a shit ton of laps through the park and cruising the mountain. The conditions were really good and the snow was soft. We even ventured on a few short hikes. Todd and Hunter were rocking some pretty fitter gear compliments of Nima's L1 designs. So, needless to say hiking was a bit of a challenge..

While nursing an Election Day hangover on Wednesday, I received a few calls from Lil-est and Tim telling me how bad I missed it. Well, there's only one thing to do in that situation, get up at the ass-crack of dawn and hit that shit up the next day! So, after calling and texting Lil-est all night and all morning, as Tim and I were rendezvousing at the Quarry Village Albertson's, Lil-buddy gave a call. Seems he wasn't even home yet and definitely didn't have his shit together. But after pulling out and giving a quick goodbye smooch to his Googly Bear, Lil-est ran home, gathered his gear and jumped into the Chevy, good stee. Off to Vag-arnia!!!

So, I have made the move to Sunny Socal.. at least for the time being. I spent Saturday at Surfside Sports a huge store located in Newport Beach. It was there winter carnival sale. Thinking it was going to be hard for them to make any winter sales while it was 80 degrees outside was my mistake. the place was packed all day..

So the story goes: Pouch got a phone call from Legge at 4am. Legge was kinda out of it and told Pouch that he was at some gals house and was about to seal the deal. Naked and disoriented he had to make a run to the bathroom. Raging boner flapping in wind Legge trips on her bathrobe and takes a dive into the bathroom and smacking his head on the shower track. He is now bleeding bad and asking Pouch if he should go to the hospital. Legge decides it can wait till morning and wraps it up and leaves the house as it got "Awkward". He then proceeds to sleep in his Jeep before making it home this morning.

So last night I was sleeping on the floor of my office when low and behold, from a foggy vapor appeared a 48 yr old Alex Pashley who had just traveled through time from the year 2029 to pay me a little visit. We had a few laughs about flying cars etc...and then Alex was on his way. I told him that people would think that I was on paoti again if I told them who I had just hung out with so he left me this photo as evidence of him truly being here. How to "fix" a Powerbook

About a month ago, a glass of wine was poured onto the keyboard of my Powerbook. So, I took the advice of some of my friends and washed it off in the shower, just to make sure it was good and clean. Since it was pretty wet from the whole shower thing, I set it up "tent style" to dry out and went to Belize for a week. Much to my suprise, when I got home it still didn't work. Luckily, I found this guide that tells you exactly how to get inside the computer and see the damage. Of course, by "fixing" I mean taking apart and staring blankly at the insides. I didn't really "fix" anything and my Powerbook is now a very expensive paperweight.

Rolled up to this poppin club in hollyhood and while I was there I met DJ rashgaurd we were just kicken it for a while in the corner of this club when this homie came over and invited us into the vip so we rolled up into the vip room all sweet, there was mad beezys everywhere, bumpin music, dranks for days me and Rashguard posted up at the bar and were getting loose off that goose, naw mean. watch out for rashguard he is the newest ish comin out of newps, check it son.

So the other night all the homies went out to dinner and we ended up going to the mongolian bbq. This place is grymy I am talking streight gutta, so we all get there sit down get organized we order our food and so on, but then about half way through dinner I was checkin out the crowd of people and I saw jackie, I was so pumped. so I went over to him told him how big of a fan I am and I got his picture. it was crazy
